Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) has announced that over 130 titles will be released for the PlayStation 2 in 2008, bringing the total number of available games on the system to over 10,000 by the year’s end.
Among the list of titles due this year include SEGA’s Yakuza 2, Koei’s Warrior’s Orochi 2, SCEE’s SingStar Pop Volume 2 and EA Sports’ Tiger Woods 2009.
Speaking at the platform holder’s E3 press conference this week, SCEA CEO Jack Tretton commented, "The biggest brands in the industry are still delivering games on PS2.”
In addition, Tretton also announced a new hardware bundle for North America, containing a PS2 console, a copy of the game LEGO Batman and the movie Justice League for USD 149.99.

Good for PS2 owners, i doubt they'll sell alot anymore it's just Sony wanting to get to the 10,000 mark
I think it is time to let the machine die. I think that is part of the problem of the ps3 not selling well in the state's. Just think if you took those resource's off those game's to make game's for the PS3. I think MS closed the door's on the xbox to soon and sony is holding on to long.
Well Sony just wants to keep to their 10 year vision of the PS2.
Just keeps Sony in the bussiness lol, good to see more titles for PS2 owners that will enjoy.
Its the money maker that saving their game devision. I am just eager for yakuza 2.
The PS2 is still a fun console. I'll be looking for some good games to snag for mine :)
People have ps2, and it still sells games, so i hope it lives on until the average man in the world has enough money to get hdtv and nextgen console.
I respect Sony for keeping their word and actually putting effort into it. This number of games for a last-gen machine is really impressive, but I think Sony should soon give it up. We need all the effort on making the PS3 look good, because right now, it's not doing as hot as it could.
Okay Sony... It is the PS3 turn. Did they even hit 1,000 yet? PS2 is done lets all wave goodbye and bring on some exclusives to the PS3.
Great. Now Sony needs to :
1.) Reduce the build cost of the PS3 & design a slim version.
2.) Re-introduce PS2 backward compatibility to a slim PS3.
3.) Rake in the money as all the PS2 owners buy a slim PS3.
4.) Reinvest that money in ensuring more 3rd party games are exclusive.
Sony : The sooner the better...
No. sony shouldn't close the door on the ps2 just because MS failed to win last generation. MS doesn't dictate what sony should or shouldn't do. keep doing what you been doing sony. its worked for you so far, don't change a thing.
@ Stovich I agree 100%, call me sentimental but, Sony, keep the original BC from the 60gbs.<FTW I am glad I bought one, last June. I waited for the price drop, although the discontinuation of the 60gb saddened me. Is it really more difficult (or more expensive) to make the ps3 with the ps2 driver in it?
Thanks Fingal - you'd think that after production costs drop a bit, then it would make sense to reincorporate the EE back into the ps3 mix. Call me crazy, but rather than putting all those into fully built ps2's, why not just get the assemblers to grab a damn'ed soldering gun on the production line? They really should think about that.
Orochi 2 and Yakuza 2 looks good to me :) i'll pick this 2
So what - they dont work on my PS3 so its a dead end.
I'm sure a lot of these will just be the new editions of sports games...
The only other ones I can think of are Yakuza 2, Persona 3:FES (for Europe), and Persona 4.
