COD4 PS3 DLC taking "longer than expected"

Posted on April 15th, 2008 at 05:10 EDT

Infinity Ward has revealed that the Variety Map pack for the PlayStation 3 version of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is taking “longer than expected”.

Speaking in a post on his blog, Infinity Ward’s Community Manager Robert Bowling commented, "I was originally hoping we'd have all the details finalized for the upcoming launch of the Variety Map Pack on the PS3 by last week, but it's been taking a bit longer than expected.”

"The only thing we're waiting on now is official dates, all the logistics are essentially worked out.”

"I got word today that the Variety Map Pack for PS3 has went amazingly well through Certification at Sony and they plan on having it available on the brand spanking new PSN store in the coming weeks."

The variety map pack contains the following multiplayer maps to indulge yourself in - Chinatown, Creek and Broadcast.

Stay tuned.

Nnnooooooooo!!!!!

Oh well, the maps I have now sure please me! Still, I´m curious about its price.

Anyone knows how this will play? Do I get to choose the map I play in? I´m not acostumed to downloadble content and I wonder if its random like the normal ones or they have a choice option. ??? Any help?!

Lame well if it comes out after GTA IV though I might not even get the maps at all.

@Neameto
I've heard it's $9.99 for the map pack, which seems a little steep for three maps so I would assume it'll be less.  My assumption would be $7.99, but I haven't been able to find an official price.  I'm sure the same as the 360s price.

@French

Don't tell me we have to pay of this. I was assuming it was free. I guess like anything in this so-called world nothing is free. Cash Rules Everthing Around Me.

This is what hurt them. Everyone is getting ready for GTA4 and they dont even know when there are going to bring the maps out. This isn't looking good. They waited to long. If  they were release back like a mouth ago then they would be on track. This makes a different from , o lets say 4 mill ppl download to now maybe 2.5 mill( thats just a number ppl dont rise up).

what a surprise! Im less impressed with infinity ward at every passing moment!  They should be giving us these maps or charging a nominal fee.

KEEP IN MIND PEOPLE!  The people you should be directing your anger to is Sony.  Infinity ward did there part and handed it off.  We are all waiting for sony to do there part and put it on the store.  By the way, of course there not free!!  How many map packs are free on there launch date?!?!  Sony has delayed: map packs, psn cards, home, etc.

Hey I know it sucks to wait, but have you guy heard what the xbots are going through because microsoft didn't spend any time testing.  First I when most of them try and down load the maps there systems freeze up.  Then, if they are lucky enough to get it downloaded most of the time while they are playing there systems freeze again.  I think that sony is just working out the kinks.  You all know that we will forget about all of this when the maps finally release.

@Fraghero

Finally some sense!  You guys don't like waiting, I get it.  But you know what's worse than waiting?  Playing buggy games and wondering if you were just ripped off 8 bucks (or 60 bucks, for that matter).

So you want to say you "I got things first, but it's buggy".  I'd rather say "I waited and it works".   That's why Sony's certification system is so long.  And sometimes, it STILL has kinks.  Could you imagine if DLC was put out "willy nilly"?  As we know, MS (in general) doesn't care if something doesn't work quite right before they sell it (the 360, Vista).  That's why everyone hates them.

Lastly, for all the cheapskates that think everything should be free...You bought a COMPLETE game called COD4 for $60 (or so).  Someone was paid to code these maps, so now YOU have to pay.  It's not UT3.  Fans are not making this stuff as a labor of love.  If you choose not to buy the DLC, you will STILL have COD4 for $60 and be able to do what you've been doing.  I don't see your problem.

Wank!!!! And i hope they arent 5 quid, im sure the extra resistance and warhawk maps werent a fiver. To be honest i feel this game was so skimpy when it came out that these maps should be handed out as if to say sorry these should have come with the main game.

Its not about the wait, i dont mind waiting if it means that it will work properly. but COD4 doesnt work all the time. I love this game when i can get into a game and play with no glitches! but the shear fact that I have had only about 3 days where i have had no problem getting into an online game since i bought it in december is crazy.

I would pay £5+ if i knew it would let me play online with no problems everytime i wanted to!

N.B  how will the new maps work in game if some people have them and some dont?!

@ greyz10

you can only use the maps in the section 'find a game' i think (don't quote me) that there is a seperate section to use only the 4 maps that you or others have downloaded.

eg, if i was to click ground war i'd play on the usual maps however, the new ones that had just been downloaded wouldn't be part of the game you were playing, so in turn you have to actually have to leave ground war and click on the section where the new maps are shown.

should be free since there was talk on the psn server looking for custom maps off fans in a comp. With all the online faults for the first few months, short story and 360 getting these before ps3. I find people foolish paying more money towards this. GTA4, MGS4 are here soon. forget this map pack

I can still play the game with out these maps i've been doing it just fine for a while no reason to pay an extra $10 for maps.

thanks hesmanes

I thought it may have to be something like that.  I was a little worried that everyone would be playing these new maps, but from what ive read around on all the forums, a lot of people are not going to buy them.

Goo thing I waited for this game.  I'll just get these map packs with the Game of the Year Edition of CoD4.

About PSN cards and in-game XMB, I really think everything is going to be released within a week of Home.  What better time than then to release those PSN cards, and it's pretty much given that in-game XMB will be with Home.

THe only issue I had with XBL maps was actually getting them. The demand was so high downloading was an issue. However since then I haven't had any issue playing on the new maps. Also, at first the new maps had their own playlist, now however they are worked in with the old content. If your in a party where a memeber doesn't have the DLC, it will pick it up and just deactivate it. (you see some red text that of course states the sittuation)
