According to Gamespot, there may be a second FPS iteration of Command and Conquer in the works.
In 2002, EA had worked on a FPS counterpart to the Command and Conquer series, C&C: Renegade, which did moderately well but never saw a sequel. Soon after, EA took on Westwood, and focused on the RTS genre, making C&C one of the most widely known in the genre.
Just recently, however, a job posting on EA's employment site is causing some speculation that the FPS idea might be coming back into light. The listing states as follows:
"Does the idea of contributing your specialized knowledge in sound design to the next-generation gaming platform for EAs widely recognized leading sci-fi franchise get you pumped? EA has an exciting opportunity for a sound designer who will work closely with the audio director on creating sound effects, dialog, and music for a next-generation first person shooter game."
While this in no way confirms that this game will be Command and Conquer, given EA's list of current IPs, there isn't much else that one could define as a "widely recognized leading sci-fi franchise." Likewise, an exact platform has yet to be announced.
Stay tuned for further information as soon as it becomes available.

Surely, until EA sort themselves out with regard to the (lack of) qualty of their PS3 titles, no-one really cares what they're developing?
@Paranoimia
Battlefield: Bad Company?
EA wasnt responsible for "making C&C one of the most widely known in the genre." they are actually the ones that ruined it.
EA has only done two C&C RTS games, Generals (which was _not_ well accepted in the C&C communities) and more recently C&C Tiberian War, which i think EA did a supprisingly decent Job on.
Your article makes it sound like EA was responible for the C&C popularity which is not true.
They never made a follow up to renegade because renegade was really, really bad. It was interesting in a fanboy nostalgia type of way, but not much more then that.
Chances are they are refering to a new battlefield game, not C&C.
I agree, Generals stunk. C&C 3 is pretty good though. And there was a 1st or 3rd person single player action game, wasn't it called Renegade? - on the pc that wasn't bad. I guess we'll see what this one will actually be.
No one can replace Westwood Studio's that is true, but I also agree that Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars is one of the best strategy games out there. I would welcome more of it.
As for Battlefield - I loved 1942 and the expansion campaigns, Vietnam was cool, BF2 and the expansions where good also but I didnt buy Battlefield 2142 because I dont agree with in-game-advertising and I dont agree with the use of Spyware. The sales of Battlefield 2142 have been not so great in fact they where less than half that was forecasted by the company. I say sucked in!
Companies that betray their customers by pushing in-game-advertising down our throats or installing Spyware of any kind are companies that deserve to go bankrupt. They deserve to have their games cracked and their products hacked. They deserve to be pissed on and publicly humiliated.
watever hsppens i hope it comes to ps3.
psn id: gingo... ehh C and C FPS doesn't seem right i tihnk it should stay as a RTS game
I liked C&C: Renegade. even tho the character models were uber polygonal :D. but, knowing that the current fad is to overkill in graphics while taking away from gameplay and game duration, it probably wont be as good.
no matter which game it is actually refering to i think we can all be fairly certain it will be at the least time exclusive to the pc and 360 if not completely exclusive...and considering the utter crap that EA claims to be successful it probably isn't even either of those two but some even crappier game they are refering to.....this article should be filed 13.
@D3v1l
Funny, I would say Renegade was probably the best on-line FPS game that I ever played, and I played games like Resistance, Killzone, Raibow Six Vegas, UT1, UT2004, Halo, Counter Strike....
@killercop
No EA game will be worth buying until they resolve framerate issues. I was looking forward to Army of Two, but with the problems they (and seemingly ONLY they) seem to be having, I'm not holding my breath.
Terminator - funny you say that because I didnt mind it either. Renogade needed to be patched and was a typical windows 95 era game so the graphics were a little blocky but I kind of enjoyed the terain layout and opportunity to ambush the bad guys. I was playing this on PC at the same time I was playing Syphon Filter on PSX (I also liked it) Id say those two game where on par.
