SouthPeak Games today announced development of a new racing title due out for Sony’s PlayStation 2 console in 2008; Iridium Runners.
Developed by Italian-based Company Playstos Entertainment, the game takes place in the year 2050, where players take part in the Iridium Runners Championship; an athletic, on-foot series of races sponsored by a futuristic mega corporation.
Gamers will be able to employ a variety of weapons and other collectibles to aid them in their quest for pole position, as you race around what the developers are touting as a series of “inventive” tracks. Featured game modes include championship and single player races, in addition to full split screen multiplayer functionality.
SouthPeak Games Vice President Melanie Mroz, commented, “Iridium Runners is another example of the fun, distinctive and unique titles that we look to publish. The PlayStation 2 market is still thriving and Iridium Runners will represent great value for money, thanks in no small part to the team at Playstos.”
“It’s fantastic to be working with the team at SouthPeak Games on Iridium Runners. Their dedication and enthusiasm matches ours and together, I’m confident that we’ll see Iridium Runners become a success in the wide range of territories that SouthPeak reaches”, added Luca Da Rios, CEO and Executive Producer of Playstos Entertainment.
Iridium Runners is scheduled for release on PlayStation 2 in February 2008. Stay tuned for more details as they break.

psn id: gingo... i understand why companies make new games for ps2 because the large install base but shouldn't they be trying to move on and develop stuff for ps3
This sounds interesting,i wonder if their "innovative" minds can actually make this work.@ Gingo
Actually they shouldn't ps2 is still alive and kicking, and small companies don't exactly have all the resources required to make a next gen game.
Good job i have BC in my PS3.
move on to the ps3. ps2 games will not sell
Hmm... i wonder why this got as an article, because i thought that alot of games still were getting announced on the PS2? Well, the last on-foot racing game i've tried was an old PS1 game called "Running Wild" and it is really great! So, this might get interesting. Though, i actually havent heard of any last-gen exclusive games that interests except for Tenkaichi 3 since i got my PS3...
whats the point of this, i'd say most of all ps2 owners have ps3's now
^^ I would have to disagree with that statement. Most PS2 owners do not own PS3's since there have been 150 million PS2's sold and less than ten million PS3's
battlebum, ps2 games will sell if they are good. not everyone has a ps3 and not everyone can afford it. lots of people has ps2 and will welcome new games. you people are so ignorant
It could be an interesting game, but like most of the others here I have to agree; this should've been on the PSN for PS3 at least.
Seriously, I'm having a hard time accepting the fact that people still BUY games for the PS2. It really blows my mind. I can understand games like God of War but at least the third God of War game will be on the PS3. We need some developers with some sense.
Thats the thing though your have to remember, there are a lot of cheap games now that are in the greatest hits list that players may or may not have played in the past year or two. Also their are a decent string of PS2 titles still coming out so PS2 definitely as some life left to breath.
The one thing I appreciate about Sony's Playstation is that they are loyal to their consumers! Unlike M$, who abandoned Xbox within the year X360 had been released! Just like all their other OS, which becomes obsolete as soon as something new comes out. Sony's loyalty proves that they too like what they have created! :) The question is, how loyal are you...to yourself?
