Konami offers apology over MGO expansion issues

Posted on July 21st, 2008 at 09:17 EDT

Konami has issued a formal apology to consumers following reports of technical faults caused by the release of Metal Gear Online’s Gene Expansion pack.

The company was forced to close the MGO shop after numerous login problems transpired following a dramatic increase in online traffic. However, speaking in a statement today, the firm admitted that there is no “permanent” solution to the problem.

"We have been taking numerous corrective measures since the problems initially started, but unfortunately there are no permanent solutions we can announce at this present moment,” it stated.

"We would like to take this opportunity to express our most sincere apologies for the problems that have affected all our customers that have been with us since the Premier Beta back in April."

"We are currently doing all in our powers to bring a permanent solution to the ongoing problems in the quickest possible time," Konami added.

This sounds like a solution Sony could help with. Why not have Sony's servers host the games? I'm sure they would do it for free.

Why they have to use their own stupid login details instead of useing your PSN ID like everyone else i dont know, love ya game, but i hope it causes you grief as you made it un-necessarily complicated

i love MGO but the way it's implemented needs a lot of work...the I.D. process is a paidn and buying content via the MGO shop is annoying but in the long run it's annoyances i can live with...what gets me is the fact they shut the reward shop..grrrr...

Although...a wee goodwill gesture of a free character slot or the expansion pack half price wouldn't go amiss in my book...

I know the perfect solution, Konami. Release it on the PS Store and stop being so greedy. Sure, you'll have to share money with Sony. But you'd probably make more seeing as only a handful of people actually managed to buy it from your patethic "MGO Shop"...

Figures. Just when I get addicted to it. Lemme tell you guys, I was one of the many (o is it few) that didn't like MGO. I gave it another shot last week, and I was determined to find out why I sucked, so no one could accuse me of not liking it because I suck. Anyway, I get it now. This game is hot! The key i that it's not really a shooter, it's an MMORPG. That's right, that's what I typed, an MMORPG (with no quests). You level like an RPG. Build a class like an RPG (but most MMO's don't let you mix-and-match skills like MGO). You even level in said skills like an MMORPG! Lik I said, if you actually had quests/missions (and a persistant world, lol), you could call it World of Metal Gear". I URGE ALL OF YOU THAT GAVE UP ON IT (ESPECIALLY SOCOM FANS...YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE) TO GIVE IT ANOTHER SHOT IN A ROOM WITH FRIENDS. I promise it will bite you. The only other game I played this hard on PS3 is COD4 (of course). A perfect online game to tide me over until SOCOM.

Well it is refreshing to read an apology from a big company like this for a change after they mess up. I guess what a lot of guys said here is true, psn store is there for a reason, they tried to be different (maybe greedy) and now it's bitten them in their ***. Shame.

There is a simple and permanent solution to this on going problem.  That solution is a wonderful thing we like to call PSN.

Id rather use playstation store, even if it cost me few euros extra. Other games dont force ppl to use external store why does Konami? Maybe PSN store maybe a bit less profitable but considering the problems I see it as a lot better option :/

Wow, look at some of these comments on the importance of the PSN!  What a turnaround from last year.  "The Crowd" truly is fickle.

konami rly need to get their act together in the online world, pes2008 is unplayable online, and the mgo sign in and shop is just painful.

if they went to the trouble of releasing the game on only one console, y do they keep the online system as if they need a unified method of distributing the game to all consoles, BAH!
