Linger in Shadows explained

Posted on May 22nd, 2008 at 13:31 EDT

A lot of people have been left wondering what exactly Linger in Shadows is. According to the latest video interview with Rusty Buchert, senior producer at Sony Santa Monica, Linger in Shadows is an interactive digital art that will be made available on the PlayStation Network.

While this still leaves a ton of questions to be answered, the video below gives an adequate response to a lot of them. Buchert seems quite passionate about the project and after watching the video ourselves, we're mildly impressed by the art direction the game has taken. As always, leave your impressions below.

You can expect the game to release as early as July, but sometimes over the summer is expected.

Its not a game. Its a demoscene piece of art. The demoscene is all about creating a piece of work that pushes the techonolgy its on. They're rarely games and are normally graphics based or physics based, although I have seen some pretty cool AI based stuff recently. These works are normally done by under ground hobbyist coders with a real passion for pushing things, or coders just out of Uni trying to get a job in the games industry and need something quick for their CV's. This is interesting (or not, depending on your viewpoint) insofar as Sony have paid for some demosceners to do this on the PS3. I'm not sure why, and I don't think Sony are either. I repeat its not a game.

psn id: gingo..... the graphics in this are absolutely stunning and if they managed to make a game with similar graphics and physics as this it would be the nicest looking game to be made EVER and thats including crysis

it;s more like a tech demo than a game. I cant really see my self blowing money on it if it's an incomprehensible art masturbation. Nice to see it's real time PS3 at work but can we get some of that power put behind a real game?

Actually, this seems really different and cool.  We NEED different experiences in gaming.  Who knows, maybe even if this isn't totally "game-ish" it will give someone out there a creative boost which will result in another epic title and evolution in the game market.  You never know!

@ Raptor-21 at least someone on this website actually knows something about the industry!!! Good God people IT IS NOT A GAME!!!!! Also people get your facts right, it is NOT Sony Santa Monica that did this DEMOSCENE 'Linger in the shadows' was done by a well established demo group from Poland called Plastic. Their lead designer goes by the name Michal Staniszewski. It is nothing more than a tech demo. If it becomes more it'll only be a brief play experience because the aim of plastic was to push the PS3 to produce nothing but the best real time graphics. Their is no game code behind this.
