Metal Gear Solid 4 Not To Be Kojima's Last?

Posted on October 1st, 2007 at 11:50 EDT

Earlier in the year, Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima made a statement saying that the highly anticipated PlayStation 3 exclusive, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, would be the last game in the series that he is to be directly involved in.

However, in a phone interview with Next-Gen Biz, Anthony Crouts, Konami Digital Entertainment’s new Marketing Vice President clearly feels this is not to be the case.

“I’m sure he’s never going to let go of Metal Gear Solid—trust me”, offered Crouts.

“[Snake's] a big character, so as a franchise I think he'll always hold it near and dear to his heart. In one capacity or another, he will always be involved in the Metal Gear franchise.”

Remember, however, that this is not the first occasion in which Kojima has issued his thoughts of leaving the Metal Gear Solid franchise behind him. In 2004, he made similar statements in regards to Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, but yet he is still around today participating in MGS affairs. Either way, we must take Kojima’s statement as fact for right now but the future is always open to interpretation.

Stay with PSU, as we will bring you more information regarding Kojima’s future with MGS as soon as such content becomes available.

maybe it will be he last, if that is what he truly wants.

and i hope there arent threats against him, making him come back to mgs, as in the past. just let kojima go on with his life

He made similar statements before but the story wasn't finished. I have noticed with japanese anime, manga and video game creators that they normally will not give up their characters to someone else unless they feel they have completed the story. I never bought it the first time he said it and I will have to beat the 4th one before I believe his claim has merit.

I do think that this will be the last Metal Gear Solid, however, I think that the Metal Gear universe will continue with a new series that does not involve Snake. It seems that Kojima was hinting at it at E3 2007.

^ metal gear universe is more than likely, i just jope it doesnt crash and burn, and taint the metal gear solid name, maybe it will become the next final fantasy and come out with 12+ games

and imagining a metal gear solid with out snake is kinda hard for me, but if the story is good enough, and the characters are well developed, i'd could get over it

i think kojima should remake the early metal gears for the NES and make them onto the PS3.

This is the last one.  Leave Kojima alone people, he is tired of MGS, and he is going to kill Snake to make sure this is the final game.  don't you guys want to see what else Kojima can do with the power of the PS3, besides MGS?

I want him to go ahead with ZOE3 after MGS4, and all the hype will be for nothing if this really is not the end.

DevilWillcry, I cannot agree with you more. BRING ON ZOE 3!!!!!

MGS4 is getting waaaaay to over hyped people.  trust me, if you get your hopes up this high on a game, it won't deliver.....besides, novembers line-up of games is overshadowing my interest in this over-hyped game...hope im wrong tho.... hope this game is better then the (gameplay footage on the PSn)...that was a huge dissapointment...

@DevilWillCry - I am with you with him doing a ZOE3 for PS3, ZOE2 was one of the most beautiful PS2 games done to date like the God of War series. If anything Kojima productions will most likely be invovled in some spinoff's from the MGS universe so keep an eye out for that.

Well, he said this was the last he'd be directly involved in. I'm prwetty sure you can assume he'll be working on it somehow if they make another one.

im sorry Aratacus i dissagree with everything your saying.. i cant wait for mgs4 i loved all the mgs games and i loved the psn demo if its anything like the psn demo it will be a MASIVELY brilliant game.   Kojima will do what he has to do to make a great game series if that means this is the last one or if this is only the begining and he makes 5 more games then so be it

Which is the reason why Kojima has to end the MGS series with a bang, and an earth shattering bang at that. ;) Besides we all want to know what happens to snake after all this.

@ Aratacus

Are you kidding me? MGS4 isn't hyped anywhere near enough. Sure, people on these PLAYSTATION 3 FORUMS know what it is, but if you ask like anyone else if they're excited about MGS4, they'll probably give you a confused look and say "what the fudge is MGS4? Do you mean Halo 3?" The MGS series has been underrated ever since MGS2 (MGS1 actually got the amount of attention it deserved). MGS4 and MGO need to be known, more than they already are - to the common person. Halo 3 is great, but there are other great games too.

meaning the franchise will go to the xbox360, that pretty much sums it up ...pay attention folks

Kojima the man....likes to keep everyone guessing.  didn't he say he wasn't gonna work on another one before the release of the last one....and then this one.....dunno, hope he sticks around tho.  playing through MGS for the psOne again, and it still rocks.  video game masterpiece.

It's quite simple, it's not Kojimas decision to end Metal Gear. Let's face it MG is the only big franchise Konami has left. They screwed up Castlevania (in 3D) and most of there other franchises have not such a big fanbase or impact as MG had.

So basically they would bestupid to end this. I personally want  MG4 to be the last one in the series, and let Kojima come up with a new and fresh franchise. It would be stupid to make another sequel or prequel after the possible closing ending of MG4.

@Martijn Ther is no franchise Kojima could make that could ever equal or beat the MEtal Gear Franchise. Some people here are reading, but they are not listening. Kojima said this would be the last Metal Gear Solid game. He could still possibly make another Metal Gear game and give it another name instead of (Solid)

@ punisher so ur saying its possible kojima might make a metal gear "liquid" and maybe have us play as liqiud all the times he wasnt on screen or maybe in a diff timeframe and try todestroy the world as aposed to saving it?

I think he was a fool to say he'd never want to be apart of any more MGS games to begin with. And i think he's a bigger fool for saying that MGS4 will be the last one. He should never say that.. cause who knows? Maybe in another 10-15 years time he'll want to do another one... the future cannot be foretold and i think he should keep that kind of $hit to himself.

Kojima has been looking for a chance to move on from MGS for years but we keep pulling him back in! Like any creator he's going to eventually want to do something new otherwise he's just going to get burned out on this project. Yeah it's his baby, His studio will always be involved in the creation of any other games in the series and I'm sure he'll come back to it when he gets enough good ideas to continue the story but c'mon we cannot expect him to be the point man for every single one of them.

well there is probably going to be a MGS5. but yet it doesn't have to necessarily be made by kojima. he said he is going to leave MGS for younger developers, its just that MGS4 is going to be the last one featuring snake and the original storyline.

btw, nice idea blachase

I'd hate for this series to turn out like Capcom's precious Resident Evil. If he's going to end it, then end it like it should. I don't want to see spinoff after spinoff, prequels and sequels that never end.

-_. Kojima never said he would stop WORKING on MGS. He will still be involved with the game, but he's not directing/producing anymore. He has too much else to work on, like ZOE3, and his two unnamed titles for the Wii and 360.

If another MGS is made ( Which I hope to God, it ISN'T. ) it won't be Kojima in the director's seat. He'll just be behind the scenes, supervising, and guiding his team.

He is the biggest lier, and if he does as he say, he wont make money. These companies worship money instead of god. We will see 100000 METAL GEAR coming until the end of the world. He said he can create from the last metal gear stories for 30 years.
