Rockstar responds to BBFC Manhunt 2 ban

Posted on October 9th, 2007 at 14:08 EDT

Yesterday we reported that the British Board of Film Clasification (BBFC) announced that they will oppose the idea of the re-edited version of Manhunt 2 in the UK. Going by their company name and acting the part, Rockstar took the rebellious approach and called the comments of the BBFC “unacceptable”.

While speaking to IGN, a spokesperson from Rockstar had these comments to make: "

We are continuing to appeal the British Board of Film Classification's (BBFC) decision to deny the edited version of Manhunt 2 an 18+ certificate and thereby ban its release in the United Kingdom.”

Later he added, "The changes necessary in order to publish the game in Britain are unacceptable to us and represent a setback for video games. The BBFC allows adults the freedom to decide for themselves when it comes to horror in movies and we think adults should be similarly allowed to decide for themselves when it comes to horror in video games, such as Manhunt 2."

It is clear that Rockstar is not going down with a fight. In their eyes, and the rest of the gaming industry, videogames is just another art form no different from the movie industry where freedom of expression is practiced.

Stay with PSU as we will keep you updated on this situation as more develops.

Yeah sure just ban it - all things that get banned or are forbidden or are for adults only are especially interesting for younger audience (of course not children)...this will just raise the interest in this game and eventually boost sales - when or better say IF it finally releases :(

I think we can make our own minds up - what is appropriate. I can guarantee that some movies like Hostel have more gore and that wasn't banned. Bugger off BBFC.

If this game gets banned in the UK, I hope it doesn't affect the rest of the world...I hope the un-edited version gets released to countries not affected!

If it is banned in the UK (which is stupid) then buy it as an import, yeah thats sucks but it may be the only way to get it.
