Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has no plans to cut the price of PlayStation 3. SCEE President David Reeves made any price change intentions quite clear:
"We're not making any pricing announcements at Games Convention at all. There's none. And we don't have any plans in that regard. We're really happy with the way that things are going for the PAL business. We really are. It's on track."
After that, he went on to state that the company will introduce new bundles instead, with different games to help drive sales.
He believes that hard bundles will be more beneficial, in terms of sales, than the Starter Pack. "What we're going to allow, and it doesn't need an announcement, is simply that we'll probably put out more hard bundles than the Starter Pack," Reeves states.
Reeves also describes why Sony had chosen not to announce new PS3 games during its press conference in Leipzig last night. He explains that the sole reason for this is that they don't want to "overload" the consumer with too many games---as 59 Euros don't grow on trees.

psn id: gingo.... i think this could be a mistake but when there are suckers like me who pay £425 ($850) for a ps3 without a game no wonder they dont need a price cut lol
Agreed ^ Bringing in a price drop now would still be painful to those of us who rushed out on release date to buy one plus the extra cost of games, controllers, cables and other bits 'n' bobs. I say let the ppl who are too mean to spend a few quid wait for a change. Hopefuly there will be no prce drop till after christmas...... 2009 (MUAHAHAHAHA!!!!!)
as 59 Euros don't grow on trees. gees sony is real clever :( or just plain stupid
do they think 599e grow on trees or do you have to sh¤t it out?!
they said the same thing about NA, then the next day they dropped it. They are not going to say, "we are planning on doing, just not in the next month" cause then everyone would wait till the next month.
XSpike_SpiegelC has the right idea here. Let us look back to when they dropped the price in the U.S. They had sworn up and down that there were no plans for a price drop(not even during the winter holiday season). Before long, the price drop was a reality. I believe that Mr. Reeves answered his own question in this interview and if he does not realize it(Perhaps he already does), someone alongside him will notify him. It is hard to believe that Sony Europe has not thought long and hard over this possibility already. With that being said, keep in mind that the 60GB PS3s in North America are still supposed to be $599 according to what Sony said so strongly in May and in June. For Europe, July has yet to come.
Actually,i think Sony is making the right decision here.
We need more PS3 sales so publishers will consider PS3 again. To do that we need to attract more people to PS3 and current sales are running us last. Amazon are reporting sales of PS3 are slowing down again. We need a big price drop now.
At my work I'd say there are 10 or more Xbox360 owners to every one PS3 user. This means that my pool of colleagues to swap games with is very very small . Its not attractive to me if its going to stay this way because the precious few games on the PS3 are ports and apparently they are not as good as the Xbox versions. I want lots of exclusive state of the art games and the only way thats going to happen is if Sony sells more PS3 and developers jump on board.
PRICE CUT REQUIRED URGENTLY.
