Square was in talks for FFXI PS3 port, says TanakaSony Computer Entertainment Australia’s Michael Ephraim has addressed consumers who are anticipating the much rumoured 120GB PlayStation 3 console, suggesting that users should instead upgrade their own machines to the desired specification.
Speaking to The Age, Ephraim commented, "The hard drive issue, we've done it so you can upgrade the hard drive."
"It's non-proprietary, and you do have external hard drives," he explained, and pointed out that retailers may also stock PS3 consoles with increased hard drive capacity, specifically for when PlayTV launches.
"With PlayTV, yes you will need more storage”, he conceded. "As we all know, the price of hard drive space is coming down. If we do it, fine, but if we don't do it, the consumer will still have choice," Ephraim continued.
PlayTV is scheduled for release in Spring 2008.

I was thinking about getting a 250gb drive for my PS3 (60gb), atleast then I wouldn't have to worry what so ever about space (for a while anyways :P).
interesting......i wonder if best buy or future shop has any of these laptop hard disk drives.
I constantly need to delete stuff on HDD every Thursday as I need to download new demos!! So I want to upgrade my HDD, but it's so expensive :(
BTW, does The Club demo fill a lot, 'cause I got over 3 GB and it still says I don't have enough space...
Right now the highest you can put is 320 gb from Western Digital Scorpio
Ill up grade mine but not right now maybe when PlayTV comes out.
Well im looking for a good price on a 250 gb oe for my 60gb
just get any usb hard drive i mean its that easy if you want to have movies saved and stuff in your ps3 :) this is one of the things that makes ps3 better ^_^ go Sony!
Duh!!! I'm glad Sony didn't stick people to only the system they purchased, thanks for making in upgradable!
www.quicksilverscreen.com is best site for getting movies! or cartoons or just about anything and the best part is they are all DIVX format! as soon as the divx update comes out for the ps3 my HDD is gunna be full!! They have lots of new movies as well like ones still in theatres most are good quality but some are cams.
There is an alternative to WD, I put in a Toshiba 320gb into my 60gb PS3, it is as quiet as a mouse and gave me 297gb once formatted!
Meh let see how well PlayTV is recieved before you nuke your wallet with the 160gig. Always anticipate what it is and then analyze it before purchasing.
whats play tv
Play TV is like a TiVo for your PS3. So far only availible in european regions as far as I can tell.
Personally, Even though We dont have it in the US and probably wont have anything like it for some time I'm perfectly happy to just be more cautious about what I leave on my PS3 HD, I'm going to dump up a bunch of trailers and stuff onto an external drive for far less than the price of an SATA drive and wait until GAMES have forced me to upgrade. I mean if you can just plug in an external drive or a USB flash drive why leave all that stuff on the system?
is 300 as far as it goes? I really don't want to purchase on and then find out there'll be a double capasity one comming out in 2 years at the same price. and personally I prefer one thats internal not external.
Ill probably just get an external 500GB and format ~100GBs for PS3 storage and the rest for my computer.
@hubluba
PS3 alraedy has divX support. It hasn't been able to play some of my movies that do work on my PC.
I will upgrade when the demand for an upgrade its me.
When you upgrade your harddrive, do you lose all of your files??....jw
I'm planning on upgrading mine as soon as i find time to shop around to get a good deal. 60 GB is fine for right now, but as time goes by i am going to need more space.
