Small concelation for folks who only bought a PS3 for FFXIII I guess.  I've never actually played a JRPG myself, so I wasn't bothered about the whole multiplatform thing.

Whatever they say now just feels hollow to me. I feel absolutely betrayed and I cant see Final Fantasy and any flavor of it as anything special anymore - it's just another prostituted game title. Bugger off SE - FF has no sole.

I ain't really a Final Fantasy type of guy actually I'm not even a JRPG kind of guy.  But FFXIII going to the 360 hurt Sony bad in my opinion.  Hopefully Sony can at least keep Versus XIII for all you Final Fantasy fans.  Damn u Square bastard Sellouts!!!

Would it really matter at this point? I don't think keeping Versus an exclusive will change or improve the reaction that PS3 owners have had to Square's selling out. It's interesting how the 360 version won't be released in Japan because they know it won't sell there - the one place that the 360 needs it the most. In fact all that does is help the PS3 since FF will sell alot of PS3's there.

I could honestly care less about FF XIII going multiplatform, it's not like it's an xbox exclusive, you can still play it on your PS3. The genre isn't as mass appealing as GTA's is IMO and the loss of it's exclusivity didn't change much. Other than this FF XIII announcement, Microsoft didn't really bring anything cool to the table. Gears and Fable look good, no doubt, but other than that it was just a series of rip offs (lips, mii avvy's, eye toy rip offs from last gen...). When you think of it MS's aquirement of FF XII is another example of just stealing what other platforms have already made great.

All Sony has to do to save face here is be half as boring as MS.

HEY MORONS. Buy the game for you PS3 or they WILL think that Multiplatform is the way they have to go for EVERY GAME. If you keep up this ridiculous idea that these companies are being disloyal to you you're just going to hurt the industry YOURSELVES.  These are BUISNESSES, they exist to MAKE MONEY, Have you read exactly how much these game cost? they have no choice but to go multiplatform in many cases. MGS4 stayed exculsive because Konami NEEDS kojima to continue making million sellers for their company.

When thinking about it., maybe those who play FFXIII on 360 will want to play Versus XIII on PS3; therefore, they will buy a PS3 to play it.  You never know.

odium to be fair you do realize that JRPG's are born from tradition western RPG's. Most of the classes and mechanics have had origins in the west. The only big difference are the ideologies behind character development and storyline.

Thank you! People don't seem to realize that if they show they can turn more of a profit on the PS3 than the 360 the PS3 will win back exclusives. Has any 360 RPG hit over 1 million? If FFXIII makes a multi million seller on the PS3 and ends up selling less than a mill on the 360 then that would tell the entire story.

if it's any consolation.. FFXIII was NOT directed by Nomura (who by the way, as the director for FFVII and FFX), and FFXIII Versus WAS. If One Goal Spirit is exclusively for the PS3 and Star Ocean 4 comes over, then I'll be satisfied.

My 2cents.

For those that say that it doesn't matter if it is on the 360 it is still comming out on the PS3.  Square will now need to develop for the constraints of both systems and thus the game will suffer.  They can work around some issues but in general it is obvious that they will NOT put in the effort to make the game better on the PS3.  Thus this kind of sucks, but there isn't much Sony can do about that now.  Except one thing (mentioned later)

Next is a hope.  It is my belief that the 360 crowd is mostly made up of USA mountain dew drinking frat boys or gangster thugs from the cities. Those types generally don't buy games with characters that are guys but look like a 13 year old girl.  I have to wonder what square will do if this game tanks on the 360?  In my very general survey of the group of 360 owners I know, none of them plan on buying it.  I know Microosft will personally buy a ton of copies, but I would have to laugh if this thing does under 200k for the first month on the 360 and over a million on the PS3.

So what can Sony do?  Well they could lower the price of the PS3 down to $300 and make sure their console is the best one to play any cross platform games on.  They could devote resources to making other Japanese RPGs such at White Knight...  They could buy Square, but other than that they can't do much. 

I don't know what to think now, FF V XIII is my more anticipated title of the 3 but after yesterday I really don't know

Folks, it's not about whether or not the game will still be a great game. It's about what the game could have been as a PS3 exclusive and will no longer be because they now have to cater to two different systems with their time and effort. Also, in case anyone trying to play this off forgot already, they said that both copies will be exactly the same, which pretty much concludes that the PS3 will get a 360 port.

So now Final Fantasy XIII on the PS3 has gone from an excellent PS3 exclusive to a great PS3 port. Now how many of those have we had lately?

 

whatever we'll see, i just want to say one thing to people out there it isnt sony, it is the companies that choose to do this they are going to do what they want regardless so dont hate sony because of this hate squareenix and capcom they will soon find out that their games are not going to be of the caliber they once were do to multiplat and not just because they have to slim it down for the other console but because they have to spread resources and time just changing code to port it instead of making the inital stuff even better

360 now has 3 S-E titles and has put their hands in their wallets to get FF XIII. Somethings going on and I don't believe S-E wanting to concerntrate on Western Audience.  S-E strategy is to have all their 4 main games in NA for a non-specific console namely the 360? It would make more sense to have your games on a Playstation console, where all the RPG fans are who followed these games and to concertrate on a RPG gaming country namely Japan. And still have success on PS3 in the Western audience. This is not S-E clever busines strategy, this is Microsoft's influence with their big ammounts of cash to get a big name Japanese company on board and S-E sold out.

 

I remember years ago reading about SOny owning a part of S-E when they were just Square. I have read it again today by someones post in another forum, which they claim Sony owns big stocks in S-E. Does anyone know of this?

Its crazy how microsoft's 360 is tryna take a whole load of crap on the ps3...( oh wait let me rephrase that are taking a whole load of crap on the ps3 ) seriously we all know the 360 is taking over the gaming world and as a matter a fact its everything we all ever dreamed of and sooner or later the ps3 is gonna be shoved away in people's closets while the 360 is being played.. The updates and the new features for the xbox is just outstanding and its really making the ps3 look like a toolbox! The online features for Fable 2 is ridiculous I jus love it and GOW 2 I can't even believe what i'm saying but its gonna be way better the MGS4 I might as well throw My MGS4 away or something because it aint got nothing on Gears except the long azz cutscenes!! I can't believe this. Of all the games that could go multiplatform, FFXIII is the least expected. I know the world of video games as everything is just a business, ruled by  money, there is no loyalty here. However, for me, it is a huge disrespect to turn your back on the company that made your franchises the huge success they are now.  I have always had a big respect for Square and have always loved the Final Fantasy series. In fact it is one of my favorite games and one of my reasons for buying a Sony console. I wouldn't have thought they would sell to Microsoft.  Maybe I will seem like a rabid fanboy, but with this move the final fantasy series is ruined for me. It is clear that square is now aiming to the masses. They are not trying to do the best rpg experience they can, as they did before, now they just want to sell as much as they can. FF have never been a game for the masses. The FF spirit si lost. Also, it is painfull to see how square has lied to the fans by saying the game was being exclusively developed for the Ps3.  It is shame to see this happening to so many companies and so many loved video game series

I cannot fathom why so many people are upset about this?  Afterall, you are still getting the game on PS3, it just means those not as fortunate as others and chose a 360 over a PS3 will be able to enjoy this game too.    Ok, exclusives do help to produce more specific hardware sales, but Square aren't a charity and i'm sure they will make much larger profits with multi-platform releases.   I think it's all a bit childish to be honest.

Some of us spent $500 on a ps3 strictly because of exclusives titles that have kept us loyal to Sony. Any time I am telling people why I stick with playstation, Final Fantasy is mentioned... There is no point in having a better machine if it is not going to be able to receive games that demonstrate what it can do. what happened to them telling us that both of these games would fully use the ps3's specs? That's why I spent my money, to see real next generation games, especially classic like FF. When the next Metal Gear goes multi, I will know that i totally wasted my money messing with Sony this time...

yeah, we got kinda screwed, but i guess its still a good thing that its still coming out on ps3..even though its also coming out on 360.. im a little disappointed about that but hey, at least we still get to play it..and besides..versus will stay exclusive!....i hope
