No slim-line PS2 for the UK

130 titles coming to PlayStation 2 in 2008Sony’s Black Box has beaten Nintendo’s White Box in European sales last week, supposedly.
According to independent online scorekeeper, VG Chartz, the PS3 managed to sell 77,000 units in Europe (and Australia) last week, while the Wii was close behind at 75,000 sales. The DS, as always, was far in the lead with more then double the sales of PS3s.
This could be due to the release of the 40 GB version of the PS3 in PAL territories, brining a more affordable PS3 to the masses, albeit with highly reduced functionality. Also, the Wii is again becoming hard to find in PAL territories, as Christmas is just around the corner.
VG Chartz is to be taken with a pinch of salt, and is more of a guide then actual truth, but it at least shows that PS3 sales are on the up.

Good news for ps3 (price cut wasn't for a full week either, only 4-5 days)...but I don't know about the 40GB version having "highly reduced functionality." It's still a ps3 with blu-ray, cell, and HD...the only real difference is BC which I wouldn't call "highly reduced functionality."
Jesus, please stop the Wii... Why do they continue to sell week after week?
Let's just hope this isn't just a spike. But keep in mind, this is STILL without many of the big hitters even released! So if we can outsell the Wii with just HS and Warhawk.... just wait until MGS and KZ2 come....
I dont get it. Ok fine that the DS is selling like s..., but the Wii? Its fun for the first month or so, then it just sits there. I have a PS3 and would rather get a 360 than a Wii. But since I also have a pc, theres no need for the 360. Most of the good games are ported ;)

Like many others I don't really like using VGchartz for figures as I usually look over NPD. Any who at least the stage has been set for the PS3 to regain some of the lost ground it has in the UK.

Yep, it sometimes seems that the PSU article authors are trying to criticize the PS3 sometimes lol. I don't see how BC on PS2 games and a few input devices being taken out is highly reduced functionality.
how come the Ds is on the top... but i don't EVER SEE THEM?..... i never see kids toting them around like i do the PSP's floating around..... i don't personally know one person that has one.... i guess maybe the average wage where i live makes a huge difference...

psn id: gingo... sony needed to do more to sell units in uk and i tihnk the 40gig was the perfect option gd job sony now there might be less people playing 360s here in uk
